Dublin mum Sharon Keilthy found toy shopping frustrating — nearly everything was “plastic-wrapped-in-plastic”and shipped 10,000km from Shanghai. So, in 2018 she left a senior role at an American multinational and set-up Jiminy.ie to give eco-minded toy-buyers more options.
The eco-minded are an underserved market for toys. Up to 52% of shoppers in the Republic of Ireland avoid plastics, and 41% are happy to pay a premium for sustainably produced non-food products. Yet 90% of toys are still made from new plastic.
EU/international tests continue to find illegal levels of phthalate, lead, arsenic and other poisons in 20% to 30% of plastic toys. So, there is also a risk — and perceived-risk — that is driving demand for plastic-free.
Whether you’re motivated by market demand, risk avoidance, or doing good, Jiminy makes it easy to go eco and safe in toys and crafts. We have 170 beautiful, fun products that sell. RRPs give 50% gross margin. They’re on-trend including STEAM/STEM. All made in Europe and new-plastic free.
Our toys aren’t just wooden. There are also innovative bio-plastics (100% made from plants), recycled cardboard, paper, and safe recycled plastics. They include board games, flat-packed toys, wooden puzzles, balance boards, construction toys, art/craft supplies, bioglitter, shadow theatres, 3D colour-ins. They are designed for ages 0 to 12+. We also have sub-brand KidsNails.ie for kid-safe nail polishes.
We keep nearly everything in-stock at our Dublin warehouse and offer low minimum order quantities … we look forward to hearing from you and meeting you at the show.
