The concept behind Catherine Geaney’s Nine Arrow business is to explore the Irish language and its place in modern Ireland through artwork and design. She creates art prints and seasonal pins that celebrate Irish festivals and other gifts that showcase Irish.
In her time reconnecting with Irish she realised there are a lot of different barriers to entry when learning Irish rather than another language. There are the historical and cultural pressures, there are outdated ideas of classism, and of course a lack of confidence as many feel like they “should” know how to speak it by now.
Breaking down those barriers takes lots of people trying different things that will connect with new audiences. Nine Arrow is one small part that gives people a chance to stop and connect with an Irish word or phrase. They might start a conversation about Irish around a piece of art or a pin they are wearing on their jacket, or a mug they drink out of at work. They get a chance to think about Irish within the context of their own life and how they might want to explore that more.
Catherine will be on the Nine Arrow stand to discuss the extensive range further, and to explain how it could be a profitable addition to retailers’ stock lists.
